My inspirational Story as a Teacher
“Once a teacher always a teacher”.
I am Meera Ranjith , Assistant Leturer in a reputed college in Mumbai. I began my career as a teacher when I was 25 years old. I have a master’s degree in Geography. My career began as an ad hoc teacher in a reputable ICSE school, and I then moved on to various CBSE and ISC schools. I was a permanent geography teacher at Alan Feldman Public School after obtaining experience (CBSE). After three years of employment there, I got married and moved to Mumbai. I had a lot of difficulties, but I never lost hope, therefore I kept going on with my teaching career. I believed that I have a characteristic that appealed to kids. I used to engage pupils in a variety of activities while I was teaching. I had a job from elementary through secondary school, followed by junior and degree colleges. I gained a lot of experience working with the children in each section. Despite all the stress and challenges I have in my line of work, I am always filled with enthusiasm when I walk into the classroom. This makes my day. I have been working as a teacher for 15 years. I was continually changing and refining my own teaching methodology during my early years of teaching. But by adapting to every circumstance, I soon discovered how to grab my pupils’ attention and convince them to pay attention to me. Even the misbehaving students can be controlled and made to behave by me. I’ve learned how to fit in and give them the impression that I’m more than just their teacher—that I’m also a friend and a second mother all rolled into one.
In 2011, I began working for the Pillai group of Institutions as a curriculum developer. I produced grade-by-grade plans for junior kindergarten through sixth grade while also learning and comprehending the international curriculum. I got hired as an assistant lecturer at Mahatma Junior College of Education after three years. Along with my profession, I pursued my M.Ed degree. Then I was assigned to the Mahatma Junior College of Education as a Teacher Educator. A turning point in my life came when I decided to mentor aspiring teachers and impart my knowledge and abilities in the most effective way possible to create the brilliant and outstanding teachers of the twenty-first century. They always come to me with any issues. Even so, I have my own subtle method of correcting them to be able to teach them how to collaborate with others, which will eventually aid them as they join the real world. Although I encountered resistance from my subordinate because of my slightly different approach, I persisted in my teaching methods and was able to foster students’ research mindset. I was able to complete 14 action research projects with students, and 10 of them also had articles published in journals and publications and gave presentations at various National and International conferences.
As a teacher, I want my pupils to get a broader understanding of life and the need of becoming obedient members of society in addition to academic knowledge. With Marathi Madyamik pupils who needed help reading and writing in English, I have also conducted intervention programmes.
In order to help my pupils understand the ideas, as a geography teacher, I strive to first identify their struggles with the subject. I then try to adapt my approach to fit their level.
In addition to academics, I inspired my students to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and competitions, where I took home intercollegiate-level honours and awards.
I keep up with my professional development as a teacher by going to different conferences and workshops and giving presentations. In addition to 2 books, I have written 40 papers both nationally and internationally. I also have a national and an international patent, along with four other honours this year.
I’m glad to announce that during the course of my life, I’ve motivated about 2000 students, and I’ll keep working for them and for society.
